A brazen daylight robbery struck PNG Jewelers in Sunnyvale in the United States of America (USA) on June 13, involving nearly twenty individuals in a smash-and-grab operation. The incident occurred at the Hacienda Shopping Center on E. El Camino Real around 1:30 p.m. where suspects used tools to break into jewellery display cases, swiftly fleeing in multiple vehicles before police arrival.

Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) initiated pursuit of two suspect vehicles on northbound U.S. Highway 101. During the chase, stolen jewellery was discarded from one vehicle, which was later abandoned near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City. Five suspects fled into an industrial area, leading to their subsequent arrest near San Carlos.

This incident marks the second targeted robbery of an Indian jewellery store in two weeks, following a similar event at Bhindi Jewelers in Newark. Such targeted crimes against Indian jewellery stores are on the rise in the U.S., coinciding with the expansion of major Indian brands in the country.

The series of robberies shows concerns within the Indian jewellery retail sector in the Bay Area. Despite these challenges, PNG Jewelers reaffirms its commitment to security and vows to reopen soon, supported by the unwavering solidarity of its patrons and community.
