The Foreign Ministry’s office in Hong Kong and the Chinese Embassy in the US have both criticized the US over its annual Hong Kong report and urged the US to not interfere in the internal affairs of Hong Kong and China.

Their response came after the US released the 2024 Hong Kong Policy Act Report on Friday, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying they are taking steps to impose visa restrictions on certain Hong Kong officials.

In a statement released on Friday night, the embassy objected to the US smearing the city’s homegrown Safeguarding National Security Ordinance and attempting to unreasonably impose unilateral sanctions on officials fulfilling their duties.

The embassy also pointed to the US’ “impenetrable” national security system protected by countless acts with an extremely wide extraterritorial coverage.

It added it was clear political manipulation of the US to point fingers at Hong Kong issues and blasted the US’ “hypocritical” double standards.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry’s office in Hong Kong said the so-called 2024 Hong Kong Policy Act Report was a “lie report” that should have been sent to history’s trash heap long ago.

The office also blasted the US for using the report to stigmatize the Beijing-imposed National Security Law, the improved election system, and the Ordinance, and to slander Hong Kong’s rule of law, democracy, freedoms and human rights.

The office said it is the usual practice of the US to force others to take medicine while it being the sick one, and urged the US to examine itself rather than playing the role of “world policeman”.
